James Brearley Lancashire Open 5th Position and Winner of the Pro Am Tournament

The Lancashire Open was again played at Blackpool North Shore Golf Club on Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th of August. I had a first round score of 66 and a second round score of 70 (136, 6 under par total) which ended in 5th position. The pro am took place the day after in which i shot a 65 (6 under par) and won also finishing second in the team event. I would like to thank James Brearley for sponsoring the event as it was extremely well organised and funded.

PGA North Region Championship

The PGA North Region Championships took place 23rd - 25th July. After getting on the leaderboard lying 8th place going into the final round with a best of the day 4 under par 68 on Thursday i slipped to 20th position on the last day. There were alot of positives to take from this week as i have carried my form through tee to green and am optimistic for the long run of tournaments i have ahead. I was very happy to have played with Malcolme Mckenzie who held a tour card for many years and won the French Open, i gained alot of experience from him. What happened on the last round, well its one of them days where nothing went for me and to put the icing on the cake i double bogeyed the last hole for a 4 over par 76. I collected valuable order of merit points, the next major event is the Leeds Cup 19th - 21st August.

Pairs Book Final Place After Monster Play-Off

There was a late finish at the North Region qualifier for the SkyCaddie PGA Fourball Championship, supported by Sunderland, as a 10-way play-off was finally concluded just before 10pm.

The large group, who had all finished tied on five-under 65 at Woodsome Hall in Huddersfield, teed off at 7.45pm but it took six extra holes in the better ball format before the seven qualifiers were decided.

Those who made it through were Simon Edwards (Clays) and Paul Carman (Huddersfield), Vincent Guest (Teesside) and Graeme Bell (Eaglescliffe), Andrew Turner (Knaresborough) and Andrew Stevenson (Mersey Valley), William Crellin (Tim Jenkins Golf Ltd) and Jonathan Lupton (Middlesbrough), Nicholas Baron (Seddiner See) and Steven Holden (True Fit Golf), Richard Masters (Baildon) and David Delaney (Halifax Ogden) and Colin Maroney (Harwood) and Sean Owen (Bolton Old Links).

The unlucky three to miss out in the gloom were Philip Boag and Danny Walsh (Garforth Golf Range), Joe Senior (Heysham) and Steve Parry (Astley Village Golf Range) and Julian Haworth and Lee Shepherd (Willow Valley).

Winners of the event, who finished a long time before the play-off got under way, was the pairing of Martyn Hamer (Ellesmere) and Nick Sargent (Eastham Lodge) with an impressive 12-under-par 58. That included a back nine of just 27 from Hamer.

David Brunton (Ringway) and Jonathan Cheetham (Gatley) were second in the qualifier on eight under with Mark Bradley (Chorley) and Paul Walker (Knott End) a further stroke behind.

Hazel Grove Players Tour

The latest Players Golf Tour Event was played at Hazel Grove 26th June. I started bogey, bogey in the blustery conditions, the greens were extremely fast and were a shock to the system early on in the round. The middle part of my round consisted of no bogeys to the 17th tee and 3 birdies, getting me to 1 under the card. The last 2 holes were dissapointing finishing bogey, bogey and finishing tied 10th. There were alot of positives to take from the day as the middle of the round included some good shots in the wind. Future results can be found on www.theplayerstour.co.uk.

Qualifying in Style

The Qualifying for the P.G.A North Region Championship took place at Fleetwood G.C on the 4th June. Taking the second spot availabe at the qualifier with a 4 under par 68 means i will compete in the tournament 23rd to 25th July at Burgham Park Golf Club.

ROOKIE professional Martin Edge led the Leeds Cup west qualifier with a two-under-par 68 at Sale.

And the 19 years-old Hesketh assistant did it the hard way with an adventurous round.

After making a dream start with an eagle at the first hole, he then triple bogeyed the third to reach the turn in one over.

But he retrieved the situation by covering the home stretch in two under, thanks to birdies at the 12th, 15th and 16th.

Fellow assistants Martyn Hamer, from Ellesmere, and Matthew Marsh, from Hallowes, shared second place on 70.

A total of 28 players qualified for the Leeds Cup, professional golf’s oldest trophy, at Cobble Hall on August 19-21.

LEADING SCORES: 68 Martin Edge (Hesketh); 70 Martyn Hamer (Ellesmere), Matthew Marsh (Hallowes); 71 Phil Kelly (St Annes Old Links); 72 John Cheetham (Marriott Worsley Park), Nick Deme (Brookdale), Jon Haines (Drivetime)

Recent News, Invite to The Oceanico Pro Am, Worsley Marriott

I have recently recieved an invite into the above event in 2008 through the ISM Sports Management Team. The event will again be played at The Worsley Park Marriott Golf Club from the 29th May to 1st of June. Entry to the event is free and there will be many good players on show as the event is a European Challenge Tour. Last years winner was Ross Mcgowan who is making good progress on the European Tour. Andres Romero has also previously been a competitor in the event.

3rd Place Finish The Players Golf Tour

The Players Golf Tour is a new Tour starting in 2008 (website www.theplayerstour.co.uk). Finished 3rd in the second event on the calender with a 1 under par 71 at Hesketh Golf Club on Monday 7th April. Look out for in the future an event taking place at Ellesmere Golf Club in Summer 2008.

Europro Golf Tour 1st Stage Qualification

The First Stage of the Europro Tour School took place at Forest Pines Golf Club 9th and 10th April. With Rounds of 5 over and 3 over par i managed to progress through to the Final Tour Stage played on 18th to 20th of April at Frilford Heath Golf Club, oxfordshire. The conditions at Forest Pines were tricky with the greens being extremely slopy and not in their best shape due to the time of year. I was extremely happy to grab the very last qualifying space!!
